MINDFULNESS MEDITATION INSTRUCTION

Federico is a candidate for Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certification in Tara Brach and Jack Kornfield's MMTCP program

WHY MEDITATE, AND HOW

Meet the life that's here with an open heart

Mindfulness seems to be everywhere these days - from apps on our phones to the therapist's office. Indeed, years of research highlight the impressive benefits of meditation from practice on a variety of fronts - from mental health to productivity and beyond. Practicing for these reasons is great; but there is so much more to the story!

At its heart, the practice of mindfulness meditation trains the mind to be present for what arises, without judgment. Rather than being caught up on the usual chatter of our minds, reacting to this and that, grasping at what we want and pushing away what's unpleasant - we learn to see the content of our minds with clarity. This wisdom, in turn, allows us to act in the world from our wisest self.

In Buddhist tradition, mindfulness is often depicted as one of two wings: to fly towards enlightenment, we need the wing of compassion to help us welcome and embrace what arises in our conscious awareness. This is when true growth and transformation can happen.

In our work together, we will develop both sets of skills. We will cultivate mindfulness of the body, emotions and thoughts, and learn to meet what arises with compassion for self and others. This state of loving presence is what allows us to create lasting change: we love ourselves into healing rather than beating ourselves up into discipline.

As your practice advances, we may also explore questions on the nature of self, consciousness and more.

In learning to meditate, it is important to recognize that most of us carry trauma which may get triggered as we open up to the content of our mind. For this reason, I emphasize trauma-informed practices that help create a safe container for practice.

Individualized instruction is one way in which I offer these teachings; group courses and open meditation sessions will also become available by donation. Please sign up to the newsletter to be notified about these offerings. Whichever format is most suitable for you, I will be honored to hear from you.

Your path is not to seek for love but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself you have built against it.
