Psycho-spiritual alignment is another way to define personal inner coherence: every spiritual tradition has a way of helping practitioners align their everyday actions and behaviours with the greater truth that they discover through practice. Examples of this are the Noble Eightfold Path of Buddhism or the eight limbs of Yoga as described in the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali.
We are out of alignment, for example, when we feel that our job does not match our values, or when we find ourselves eating animal products despite having great compassion for animals and the planet.
The path of alignment is one of deep self-reflection and courageous change; its fruits are personal growth, greater inner peace, and liberation from the unconscious patterns that steer us away from the deepest truth of who we are.
